Al wakra Reclamation And Backfilling Area Qatar
Project Overview
GeoStruXer was engaged by UrbaCon Trading & Contracting (UCC) and Dara Engineering Consultants to evaluate and validate the performance of the Al Wakra Reclamation and Backfilling Area project in Qatar. The project involved backfilling and reclaiming nearly 1 million square meters of land with varying fill thicknesses, as part of Qatar’s rapid infrastructure expansion ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Due to the accelerated timeline and limited access for field testing during execution, the owner required a retrospective performance assessment before project handover. GeoStruXer deployed satellite-based InSAR technology to conduct a time-series deformation analysis across the entire area, supported by selective ground validation testing.
Challenges
Post-Construction Assessment
Vast Area Coverage
Time Constraints
Data Limitations
Solution Approach
InSAR Time-Series Analysis
Conducted a satellite-based retrospective deformation study using interferometric SAR (InSAR) techniques to monitor historical ground movement across the entire area.
Targeted Site Validation
Selected key locations with consistent performance and areas of interest for further in-situ geotechnical testing.
Cause Identification & Recommendations
Analyzed minor deformations in isolated zones, identified likely causes, and proposed remedial measures.
Performance Criteria Establishment
Defined technical acceptance benchmarks in consultation with stakeholders to enable data-driven decisions for project handover..
Value Engineering & Sustainability
Cost-Effective Monitoring
Enabled large-scale ground stability evaluation without extensive site works
Non-Intrusive Assessment
Avoided resource-intensive testing and site access requirements.
Efficient Resource Allocation
Focused ground testing on areas with anomalies, saving field investigation time and cost while ensuring reliable evaluation.

Collaboration
GeoStruXer ensured close coordination with UCC, Dara Engineering Consultants, and the project owner to align objectives and expectations. This approach ensured transparency throughout the assessment process. This collaborative model also optimized decisions and resource allocation for closure and the proposed validation strategy
