Pile Drilling Impact Assessment – The Line NEOM
Project Overview
GeoStruXer collaborated with Trevi Arabian Soil Contractors (Trevi ASC) to address the complex challenges of drilling 2.5m diameter piles near backfilled boreholes in The Line Project, Module 46, NEOM. The scope involved assessing the impact of pile drilling on adjacent backfilled boreholes while considering advanced construction techniques and sustainability principles. The project was part of NEOM’s visionary development initiative, a 170km-long city designed for 100% carbon neutrality, with minimal environmental disruption and innovative urban planning. The project aimed to harness existing soil conditions while ensuring enhanced structural performance and sustainability.
Challenges
Complex Site Conditions
Role of Supporting Fluid
Environmental Constraints
Solution Approach
Advanced Modelling
Conducted non-linear 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to simulate construction stages and incorporate soil–structure interaction and the behaviour of polymer supporting fluid.
Safety Focus
Thorough evaluations ensured safety factors exceeded required thresholds, providing precise insights into borehole deformations and pile behaviour.
Sustainability Alignment
Large-diameter pile verification was designed to align with NEOM’s sustainability principles, minimizing environmental impact..
