Piled Raft & SSI Analysis – Rixos Hotel Baghdad
Project Overview
GeoStruXer was commissioned to perform a comprehensive geotechnical analysis and design of the Combined Piled Raft Foundation (CPRF) system for the prestigious Rixos Hotel project in Baghdad. The analysis focused on the foundation’s displacement, soil contact pressures, global safety factors, and internal structural forces, ensuring alignment with engineering norms and safety standards. The project was part of NEOM’s visionary development initiative, a 170km-long city designed for 100% carbon neutrality, with minimal environmental disruption and innovative urban planning. The project aimed to harness existing soil conditions while ensuring enhanced structural performance and sustainability.
Challenges
Solution Approach
3D Finite Element Analysis
Utilised Plaxis 3D to integrate pile load and plate load test data for a comprehensive model.
Soil Model
Applied the HSsmall soil model to simulate non-linear soil behaviour and stiffness variations.
Model Calibration
Calibrated the model using local soil reports and field test results to ensure accuracy.
Value Engineering & Sustainability
Optimised Load Distribution
Reduced deformation to 45 mm, within the allowable limit of 50 mm.
Enhanced Safety
Achieved a global safety factor > 3.0 and angular distortion ratio of 1:1280 (greater than the 1:500 limit).
Seismic Resilience
Designed to withstand seismic conditions with a liquefaction probability below 10%.
