Seismic & Static Evaluation – Jazan Grain Facility, Saudi Arabia
Project Overview
GeoStruXer conducted an in-depth evaluation of the impact of constructing additional workshops and offices on a recently rehabilitated micropiled post-tensioned raft-on-grade foundation system for a Grain Warehouse in Jazan Port. This foundation, monitored using InSAR technology, was assessed under static, seismic, and variable loading conditions. Our findings confirmed that the existing foundation could accommodate the additional loads without further modifications, ensuring cost and time efficiency.
Challenges
Complex Geology
Seismic Vulnerability
Integration with Structure
Solution Approach
Soil–Structure-Interaction(SSI) Analysis
Employed 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with the Hardening Soil Model (HSsmall) to simulate soil behavior and assess foundation performance.
Field Calibration
Calibrated the model using both wet and dry plate load tests, alongside micropile load tests, to improve the accuracy of predictions.
Seismic Evaluation
Conducted spectral response analysis and deconvolution studies using ground motion data, in compliance with Saudi seismic design standards.
Value Engineering & Sustainability
Cost and Time Savings
Confirmed that the existing foundation could support additional loads without the need for costly modifications, leading to significant resource savings.
Monitoring and Optimization
Integrated InSAR technology for real-time monitoring and performance tracking, optimizing the creep parameters of the N2PC salt rock model.
Enhanced Design Precision
Performed parametric studies to optimize micropile layout and foundation response under dynamic loading conditions.
Collaboration
GeoStruXer worked closely with SKY Specialized Co. Ltd., maintaining transparent communication and providing continuous updates to ensure alignment with client expectations. Iterative validation of results fostered confidence and contributed to the overall success of the project.
